Youth 18 and under can enjoy meals together at area-eligible meal sites. SUN Meals are free and help kids get the nutrition they need all summer long. Often these meal sites are at schools providing summer learning, libraries, faith-based organizations, parks, or at camps, and many provide fun activities and nutrition education. This program, also called congregate meals, is administered by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Learn more.
SUN Meals To-Go provide greater nutrition access to youth 18 and under in rural or remote communities when school is out for the summer. These free meals may be picked up by designated adults at nearby locations. In some areas, the meals may be delivered to neighborhoods or even directly to homes. Sometimes multiple days of meals are provided. This program, also called non-congregate meals, is administered by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Learn more.
Families can receive summer grocery-buying benefits on a debit-like card per eligible school-aged child. The card can be used to purchase nutritious foods, from fresh fruits and vegetables to family staples. Students receiving SUN Bucks are encouraged also to participate in other SUN summer nutrition programs. This program, also referred to as Summer EBT or S-EBT, is administered by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Learn more.
